Safety and Security is an Urgent Priority
The District needs to limit entry and exits as well as provide security cameras and door lock systems that assure our students are safe while at school.
Our School Buildings are Ineffecient and in Need of Repair
The average age of a school in the Astoria School District is 63 years old and some schools are nearly 100 years old. This means their electrical, heating, and cooling systems are inefficient, out-of-date and in some cases so old the district can no longer find replacement parts.
Old and Outdated Classrooms
Classrooms for math, science, music and performing arts are old, outdated and lack the modern technology. Our schools need healthy learning environments with natural light and better air quality that imporve student learning.
Vocational and Technical Learning
Our technical and hands-on learning programs need critical enhancements and appropriately sized facilities. This includes enhanced voactional programs in instruction and technology, agricultural science and pre-engineering.
